Additionally, businesses can reach their customers through email newsletters and blog postings. Blogging allows your customers to be vocal and passionate about the brands, products and services that they support. Equally important, these customers can be your biggest fans, or drive your company into the abyss with negative feedback. Using solid communication skills, and having the ability to build rapport and connections, and a keen awareness of your brand will be more important than just pumping out content. From time to time, it’s a good idea to take a pause and revaluate your social media strategy to ensure your efforts are creating maximum value for yourself or your organization.

Forbes author and the director of marketing at Forum One, Christina Crawley recently posted some great tips to help keep your focus on social media strategy, not just content dumping. Her tips include:

  2. Focus on the networks that matter. Does it make sense for your to be on every social media site? Probably not, unless you plan on maintaining those channels regularly.
  3. Define how to measure success. Crawley gives the example, “If your goal is product brand awareness, your KPI might be reaching 100 likes per month on Facebook, or 25 favorites per month on Twitter. Having an end goal will help you craft the right message to get there.”
  4. Learn from the competition. Learn the lay of the land so to speak. You don’t need to reinvent the wheel. Be sure to keep an eye on what your competitors are doing. Perhaps they will provide you with inspiration or give you some good thoughts on what you are not doing.

The vast majority of social media experts agree it’s no longer a question of whether a company should socialize their brands but how best to do it.
